JACKSON, Tenn. — A Hub City organization gathered Wednesday morning to help residents in midtown Jackson.
Team members of Love Your Block and Prosper Realty, along with students of HomeLife Academy, gathered to clean and repair the homes of Linden Street.
“Love Your Block is an exterior home repair program for lower income residents,” said Elvia Trejo, City of Jackson Neighborhood Specialist. “Right now we have a waiting list of about 60 people, midtown, east Jackson, and downtown, and we’re hoping to start those projects in late April.”
Some guests asked for mulch and to power wash the outside of their home.
“We’re cleaning the streets, digging up the sidewalk. Doing pressure washing and just trying to clean up every house the tenants allow us to. So we did go knocking asking for permission,” Trejo said.
Prosper Homes group was working on houses, which will later be available to lease.
“The importance of this initiative is to just clean up the blocks, revitalize some of these neighborhoods throughout Jackson with all the growth that’s going on,” said Frank Jordan, Prosper Real Estate General Manager.
Students of HomeLife Academy had the opportunity to volunteer in other parts of the Jackson community.
“We have a J term where we kinda focus on some things and community service so everybody is included,” said teacher Jen Holubovsky.
Both teams will continue their clean up and improvement on Thursday from 10 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon.
